I’ve been a little MIA but January was the month of self discovery and focusing on everything that deals with ME. I was so busy but now I’m back with a whole bunch of favorites! Let’s jump right into it!
I’m not talking about my face but my body! I’m obsessing with this Neutrogena Body Oil that I bought from Ulta. I was so intrigued because I hate the filmy feeling that lotion gives me after a while. Have you ever sweated and then rub your hand on your shoulder or something and your lotion balls up? Or after you shave, you put your lotion on BUT it stings like a mother? This product has been the answer to all my prayers and YES I am aware I sound like I’m part of an infomercial but stick with me people. Basically with the Neutrogena Body Oil you shower like a normal person but before you towel off, you apply the lotion on your body. Then you pat yourself dry and BAM you’re moisturized with no filmy feeling. No stinging after you shave and honestly, its way quicker than rubbing in your lotion for 30 seconds waiting for it all to properly rub in. I’m never ashy afterwards but I do wish it had more sheen. Maybe if I apply it and just air dry. Still my favorite in January.
The Too Faced Sweet Peach palette is definitely my favorite eyeshadow palette for the month. I’m obsessed with the smell and the colors. The pigment is amazeballs and I feel like I never run out of looks with this palette. Half the palette is neutral basics and the other half are bold colors so it gives you the opportunity to enhance your look a bit. I’ve done a mean smokey eye with this palette and I’ve done a “natural” look as well. I just feel like this palette is so versatile no matter the month, the season, or person. It’s definitely worth the buy and the time.
This month’s Boxycharm came with Pur Cosmetics Mineral Glow Bronzer and at first I was turned off by the look of it. I thought it looked too ashy which is something I avoid when contouring. I love a warm bronzy look when I contour because I feel like on me, it looks like I came back from an island vacation. I decided to play with it some more before I threw it in the “pass along” pile and I actually fell in love with it. After I built it up more my Crown Beaute Basics Contour blush brush (I got it in my Ipsy bag), I actually saw that it was a bit warm. I actually use it everyday and always get compliments with how great my cheekbones look.
Burt’s Bees Papaya Guava candle is a staple in my household. I always need one burning every night to calm my nerves. It smells so delicious and for $4.00 at Wal-Mart, it’s inexpensive. I’ve been using this candle since summer 2016 but I haven’t shared it with you guys. While I was thinking about my favorite January home product, I couldn’t think of a better one than this. This candle is the perfect every season candle. I’ve been obsessed for month with this fruity tropical scent. If you notice, I’m all out of this wonderful candle.
My wonderful boyfriend got me a Fuji-film Instax Mini 8 instant camera in White for my birthday (January 17th) and I’ve been obsessed. Film can get pricey when you’re someone who loves to document everything like I do, so I’ve been very selective on which pictures I’d take. Of course my first one was of my son on his fourth birthday (January 22nd). Not only do Polaroids give a vintage vibe in general but the quality of the pictures make it look they were taken in the 90’s. I’ve shared a few of the picture’s I’ve taken and show you how nice the quality is. It’s like an instant filter. There’s also different settings for different occasions as in: indoor, outdoor, cloudy, etc. Can’t get better than this!
Share with me a few of your January favorites. I’m always interested in new products and love to hear other people’s opinion. Be sure to follow me on Twitter to read my obnoxious rants (I’ve been slacking lately), my Instagram to get a glimpse into my life as mom, woman, and girlfriend, and if you aren’t sick of me already then follow me on Snapchat (irrelephvnt) to witness my horrible shopping addiction and ten seconds of hilarious jokes.
What? Is she posting a Mask Monday on an actual Monday? Yes because 2017 has made me a responsible adult. Let’s get straight to the point. I could not get the Farmacy hydrating coconut gel mask to stay in place. It kept sliding off my face for the full 25 minutes. Overall though, I did feel a little bit moisturized after every mask. Will I buy more? Nah, I’m good. I’m on this search for a really amazing mask so excuse me if I keep saying no to all these masks. I’m just not impressed.
That being said, I decided that maybe I needed to try a higher end brand to get more dramatic results. So I work at Ulta and when the store isn’t busy, I like to go through skincare and read the different product labels and find out what they do. I do it for two reasons. One, I’m always looking for new products for myself to try. I have dry skin and blackheads that I’m always looking to treat. Two, I like to know what to suggest to customers when they come in. My store also has a Clinique counter and the girl who runs it happens to be one of my favorite coworkers so she talks to me a lot about skincare and what to look for in products. This month at Ulta is all about skincare. Each day there’s a skincare item on sale for one day. Also, there’s these skin care kits that are worth $62 but are sold for $30 with prestige skin products that cater to different skin types. They’re on sale for $15 and I purchased two because I’m selfish. I got one to get glowy skim and one for flawless skin. I got this weeks mask from the Fresh Start Flawless Skin box but you can buy it separately.
I always wanted to try Mario Badescu’s skin care products but honestly, for a long time I didn’t see the point I’m spending so much on one product. I wanted to try one of the products because of all the hype about them. Also because I think it’s so dope that they label their products with letters like c, o, s, d. Each letter means that the product is good for combination, oily, sensitive, or dry skin. This past year I’ve seen the difference in investing in make up and sometimes the quality is so worth it. Regardless I wanted at least a sample to try to see how my skin would react to it since everyones skin is different. In my Flawless Skin Kit there was a 0.5 oz sample Enzyme Revitalizing Mask. This mask was labeled with C,D,S which means it’s great for combination, dry, and/or sesnsitive skin. The point of this mask is to hydrate and revitalize your skin which is key during the winter time. It has papaya and grapefruit which apparently (because I had no clue) has natural exfoliants and vitamins that gives that glowy look that everyone should want.
Okay so the instructions told me to apply a thin layer and leave on for 20 minutes. So after I removed my makeup I took my wet and wild foundation brush, that I specifically save for face masks, and did as instructed. It’s not a thick mask so it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. It does have a scent but it’s not strong enough to irritate your eyes like the Freeman’s Charcoal and Black Sugar Mud Mask. This mask does dry quickly so there’s no adding on without smearing off the first layer you already applied which is why there’s a big spot on my forehead that is patchy. I actually kind of forgot I had it on, that’s how comfortable it was to have on. After my 20 minutes, I washed off the mask with warm water and patted my skin dry. Then I put on my moisturizer and when I looked in the mirror I was so shook.
My skin already felt hydrated after the mask but to see it so glowy made me so shocked. I want to let you guys know that I have been drinking water nonstop since the New Year started and I’m proud of myself but I don’t think that’s why my skin is glows like Jlo. My skin looked pretty good beforehand but the glow was amazing after this mask. I don’t know about you guys, but I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Tune in next Monday for the FINAL impression.
**Not bragging but sharing for all you sensitive people out there
I worked really hard this Christmas. Like exceptionally harder than any other holiday. When I was younger, all of my relatives lived in New York. We would have parties just to have parties. But the holidays had their own special feeling to them. Before I was a teenager and before I could actually appreciate it, everyone moved except us. For years, the holidays weren’t anything special to us. Then my son was born and the holidays meant something to me. His three Christmases were bland and nothing special to anyone but this year I had my boyfriend and his family (who I grew up with). Last year I vowed to make the holiday’s amazing and mean something to my family again. I can gladly say I succeeded thanks to my boyfriend and his help. I was so focused on getting everyone the PERFECT gifts that I wasn’t even concerned with what I was getting. I am so thankful for what I got and all the laughs I shared with these wonderful humans that I can call family.
Let’s start with one of the gifts that I use everyday. My Boyfriend got me the Kylie Holiday Collection!!! I was really bummed out that I couldn’t buy this collection because I was spending all my money on everyone else but I survived. I literally screamed when I opened the brown box he stuffed all these beauties in. This collection contained the Kylie suede pouch, the Kylie makeup bag, the Holiday Palette, the mini lipstick collection, three individual lipsticks and glosses, three creme shadows and two lip kits. The packaging was amazing and I’m saving the ornament style ones for next years Christmas tree. I’ll do a separate review post about it because believe me, I have a lot to say.
I hate knowing what I am getting as a gift. I love surprises and just the anticipation of it all. But I have an even greater love for gift giving. I love seeing the expressions on people’s faces when they get my gifts and are extremely happy. For that reason alone, I actually didn’t open a few of my gifts until everyone else was done because of the madness that Christmas was, we didn’t even notice. My boyfriends sister and husband got me this awesome Turquoise portable Crosley Turntable. I’ve wanted one (a turntable in general) since I was 15 and now I can’t wait to go out to buy vinyls and be one of the cool kids. There’s also an aux input so I can connect my phone and use the speakers as is. OBSESSED isn’t even the word for how much I love it.
My mother went on the more practical route and bought me clothing for work. At my job, we have to wear all black all the time. I used to work retail before Ayden’s diagnosis and spent a year of my life convincing myself that I needed to move away from black clothing (because it became a shopping habit) and go for more color. Now I have the total opposite problem and struggle to come up with outfits for every day I go to work that’s all black because I want to wear color and sometimes sneakers. My mother bought me a few shirts, a few cardigans, and a light jacket that she swears is sooo “me”. In her defense, it really is me, lol.
My boyfriends sister’s mother-in-law and her kids gave me a satchel that says “smile if you’re naughty” which of course I smiled because I’m a truthful person. Inside the satchel was a Godiva Hot Cocoa kit that included a huge mug (which you know how I feel about my mugs), a bag of Godiva cocoa powder mix, a bag of mini marshmallows, cinnamon powder, and a peppermint stick to stir it all in. Keep in mind, I already tried the hot cocoa by now and I wasn’t a big fan of the taste but the mug is one of my favorites because of the amount of liquid it holds. Also in the naughty bag was a red Uniglo scarf that has heat tech. Basically with every drop of moisture that falls on the scarf, the warmer it gets. Winter Essentials.
My boyfriends youngest sister got me this cool handbag charm that has a usb cord, iphone charger, and android charger so I can charge all my devices where ever I am. I’m notorious for forgetting my charger so I was so excited to just clip this on my bag and just leave a charging cube in my purse and a portable battery. My boyfriends mother actually bought me a gift that didn’t show up until Tuesday. She got me these amazing knee-high olive-green suede boots that I am absolutely obsessed with. They’re from Lola’s Shoetique which is my all time favorite shoe store so best believe I was excited to get these gorgeous beauties.
The biggest thing I got for Christmas was a gut. My mother and I made rice, lasagna, pernil, and potato salad. Stocking were also a big deal for me. I went out of my way getting these cute stockings and having everyone’s name embroidered on theirs. Of course I couldn’t stuff my own stocking so I told the only person who stuffs my stocking on the regular, which is my boyfriend. My stocking stuffer included a thermos that keeps warm for 12 hours and cold for 24 hours. I also got aloe infused fuzzy socks which is amazing because I love cozy fuzzy socks during the winter. My favorite thing is this POP! Jillian Holtzman figurine. On our way home from Cancun we watched the Ghostbusters reboot and I fell in love with Holtzman. I couldn’t stop laughing at her and I just love this little figurine. I wanted to start collection POP! figurines so hopefully this is the start of my collection.
My greatest gift of all though was to be able to throw a Christmas get together with family that I love and hold so dear to me. It was definitely an accomplishment that was filled with laughter and happiness. Honestly, I wouldn’t have changed a thing about Christmas this year. The holidays are so stressful and honestly I was beyond stressed for a month but I’m so glad that this was the result I got. I would host Christmas every year of my life if this Christmas was the sneak peek of every other one to come. I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and holiday. Let me know what was your favorite gift this season, don’t worry, I wont judge.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE OVER! PRAISE JESUS ITS OVER! I love the holidays but I can’t schedule shit when they’re around. I’m sorry I’m such a failure. Like I have so many blog posts on hold and in my drafts because I was too busy celebrating but here we go!!!
With last weeks mask, the Freeman’s cucumber peeling mask, at first I felt like their was no difference. I had a slight redness after the mask but that was from the tugging on my skin I suppose. After 4 uses, I started to notice a subtle difference in my skin. The tiny random bumps on my skin started to slowly disappear. I still don’t know what they are because they aren’t pimples but they’re was definitely more of them than the ones I still have. I am kind of obsessed with this mask, more for pleasure (because the peel is so satisfying) rather than results. I saw no difference around my nose which is where my blackheads have their meetings.
My new mask that I’ve already used once is the Farmacy and it’s their hydrating coconut gel mask. I got this one months ago in a BoxyCharm but never used it because honestly, sheet masks freak me out.Just the way everyone looks in them…. you guys look like condoms. Not only is this mask hydrating but it’s also a brightening mask. My skin tone is pretty even so I don’t really need it for that but hydrating is always a plus in my book. Apparently its activated by antizyme-rich purple broccoli extract. I have no clue what that means but according to the back of the box there’s antioxidants that helps protect and firm skin . I’m down for that.
The instructions are pretty simple and is written on each packet (the box came with three) with pictures. You’re suppose to cleanse and tone your skin because this mask will be your moisturizer. The actual mask is in between two pieces of protective mesh. You peel one side, place the mask on your face and then peel the other side. I looked like the greasiest hot dog New York had to offer,I left the mask on, as instructed, for 25 minutes (the max time). I have pro’s and con’s for this mask already. I don’t know if the mask is naturally cold or it’s just cold in my bathroom but this mask was cold to the touch. I actually found it refreshing and a burst of energy I needed for a mid afternoon kick. It was really moist (duh it’s a gel mask) which made me confident in its ability to moisturize my face. After I took off the mask, you’re supposed to rub in the excess product. After doing so, I can honestly say that my face feels so nice and smooth and hydrated. I don’t feel the need to moisturize. The usual dry patches on my face feels so nice and smooth which is all I ask for.
What I didn’t like so much was that there was so much product that certain parts of the masks kept sliding down. I don’t know if my eyes are too big but I just couldn’t get it to fit my eyes properly. The little spot above my lips kept sliding down onto my lip and the mouth part was so wide that I had to lift up the bottom part to get it on to my chin which kept falling. Finally around the bridge of my nose kept lifting whenever I moved my face. Also, when you roll the mask up to throw away, it looks like a used condom. Not really that much of a con but my family almost flipped out when they saw it. I’m going to continue using this (I obviously have two more) and see if I can adjust it to a place where I can comfortably wear this. Until next time!
**PS I WILL get better about posting posts on time.
I know it’s Wednesday (actually Thursday because I’m posting at 12:03 am but shut up) but with Christmas passing and New Years approaching, time got away from me. Don’t worry I still have my review!
I actually did the Charcoal and Black Sugar mud mask four days in the past week and honestly? I’m not really feeling it. My face felt so clean and nice afterwards BUT I didn’t see any changes in my skin.
I don’t have the worse skin to begin with but lately I’ve been getting these little bumps (not pimples) and some pimples. I was hoping this I’ll clear some oil in my skin and just overall give me some nice hydrated skin but I still felt dry AF. My skin felt thirsty and my bumps went nowhere even though the body literally says “smooths, purifies, & moisturize”. Also, even though I didn’t put this mask near my eyes, the fragrance from this mask traveled toward my eyes and irritated the shit out of them. I wasn’t really that impressed with this mud mask and I’m sure there’s better ones out there. It is interesting to put on but semi offensive if you get offended easily.
**Not very close to the eyes yet the fragrance stung my eyes.
** New Mask I’ve already used on Monday
My new mask this week is another Freeman mask. I promise next week will be a different brand but I got this with the mud mask as a buy one get one half off promotion at Ulta. The cucumber peel off mask intrigued me because hellooooo it’s a peel off. It’s a clear mask that is supposed to clarify and renew skin. My first impression is that it looks like you’ve rubbed cum all over your face you little skank (just kidding, do as you please….skank).
It definitely reminds me of when you were in school and put Elmer’s glue on your hand then peeled it off when it dried. So yes, it’s so freakin’ satisfying to remove. You do have to kind of roll the edges a bit to get a part to grab but honestly it’s not the worst (view crappy off-center video because I had no where else to place my camera). It kind of pinches when you’re peeling it off but nothing too painful. My skin was a little red after I peeled it off BUT baby smooth. I also liked that you can see the lines on your face on the peel. It makes me feel like it’s definitely in there doing its job. Let’s give it a week before I make my final decision. Let me know if some masks to try next week guys! I always welcome suggestions!
some irritated spots that I had before hand
some red bumps that I already had
Looks like reptile skin.
**The bumpy skin I was telling you about and my peeled off reptile skin otherwise known as the peeling mask. Also my face was a little red after the mask but nothing crazy.
When you use make up, you have to take care of your skin. You should use make-up that’s healthy for you skin but also wash your face with great products that removes dirt and cleans your pores. I decided to dedicate my Monday’s to face masks. So this is how it’ll go from here on out: I’ll try a new face mask every Monday, I’ll try it every other day until the next Monday and then give you my one week review with a preview of the next face mask. I have a bit of an obsession for face masks and I’m always in the market for a good one.
If you read my previous skin care routine then you’d know that I’ve used the Freeman’s Charcoal and Black Sugar polishing mask and loved it. Since then, I discovered that Freeman’s makes a mud mask version of this one and decided to see if it’s just as good, if not better than the polishing mask. While both extract oils and impurities, the polishing mask also exfoliates your dead skin cells. I always use a toner anyways, which wipes off your dead skin cells as well, so I’m not concerned about that as much.
When I wipe off my make up, I go straight into a mask. I leave the mask on for the maximum amount of time (usually 20 minutes) and then wash/peel it off. Afterwards, I use a cleanser, wipe my face with a cotton round that has toner on it, if I am using a serum, I would go in with that and then moisturize. This mud mask requires me to apply an even layer on my face (avoiding my eyes and mouth) and wait 15-20 minutes until dry to then rinse it off. My first impression after using this is that it’s better than the scrub. The mask already feels slightly more powerful than the scrub. My skin looked glowy and moisturized without having to put moisturizer on yet ( I still did). Also, like most mud masks, I could already see my pores as the mask dried which always clues me in that it’s working. Come back next Monday so I can clue you guys in on this offensive looking mask.
Nine days into December and I’m just now posting my November favorites. I’m judging myself, for you. Now during the month of November I did go a little crazy with spending and I did get a few gratis from work. By the way, it kills me to call it gratis but say it like GRA-TIS rather than with a Spanish accent. If you work in the beauty world or just watch YouTube videos who used to work on beauty retail, then you know what I’m talking about. But either way, free or not, I’m going to have an opinion about certain things and I picked out my five favorites of the month for you guys.
1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Mario Palette
Let me tell you guys! While working, I’ve passed by this palette a million times and always sent it a yearning look because of ONE color. The color Bronx in this palette has gotten my panties wet on numerous occasions. It’s this perfect olive-green in the pan. I was SO beyond upset when I applied and it was more of a deeper forest green. But then, spraying my brush with setting spray brought me back to that gorgeous olive green that had me in love. Obviously I played with all the colors and became obsessed with all of them one by one. Bronx, 5th Ave, and Paris are my top three favorites BUT I use Isabel as a transition color to every look whether I’m using this palette or not. I would sell my soul for an unlimited amount of this color. I used this palette everyday for two weeks and always got compliments on the colors without fail. They’re just great pigment and super blendable. OBSESSED.
2. Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation
All my life, I’ve been living a lie. I had a bunch of cool toned foundations thinking that they looked fine. I’VE BEEN LIVING A LIE. Turns out, I don’t have a pink undertone. In fact I’m a yellow undertone soldier. A Tarte Representative actually taught me the trick to finding out your undertone or a clients undertone. Look at your veins on your wrist. If they’re green, you have a yellow undertone and if they’re blue, you have a pink undertone. But the most reliable way is to check the center of your chest (not between your boobs, ladies) and see the tone that’s there. It’s also really good to check your true foundation color there AND your jawline. After all this self discovery, I was matched to my color and went on my merry way. If you have dry skin like I do, then you’d know the struggle of foundation sitting on your skin or flaking around your nose. This foundation blends into your skin like a dream and helps you look hydrated all day. It’s such a moosey foundation and it’s so easy to find a match because the boxes have a little description with the undertone of each color.Your skin looks like butter, in the best way possible and compliments are always given.
3. Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick in Sell Out
This was my first Too Faced purchase ever. No doubt, it won’t be my last. I’m very careful with liquid lipsticks to not get anything way too drying because my lips are always dry. So in order to wear a liquid lipstick, I have to do a lip scrub beforehand and/or scrub my lip with a spare toothbrush to get rid of the dead skin faster. I bought this color after I applied it on a client (who hated it). I, on the other hand, loved it because it’s a pinky brown with a peach undertone and I couldn’t ignore it. I bought it, telling myself “you need it for that wedding you’re going to” but in reality, I do what I want. I wore it to the wedding and fell in love with the feeling of this lipstick. The matte finish isn’t drying and it feels velvet to the touch. Personally, it’s one of my favorite formulas.
4. L’oreal Algae Mask
I jumped up when I saw that L’oreal was making clay masks. I got up and bought two of them but fell in love with the red algae mask specifically. My skin is always the softest it could possibly be after this treatment. I always do this mask, cleanse, tone, and then moisturize about three times a week. When my son is in school and I don’t have work, this is my go to mask. Leaving this mask for 15 minutes just helps my skin so much by exfoliating and removing dead skin cells. It also unclogs and minimizes my pores and tightens my skin which I’m always looking for even though I’m young. I never want to sag so might as well prevent it now. I’d pay full price for this but sometimes, L’oreal does the BOGO 50% off and honestly I’d take advantage of that instead.
5. It Cosmetics Flawless Blush Brush
*theres blush on this brush obviously because I love it!
I was never a blush girl. I think I’ve seen too many old ladies with bright pink blush on their cheeks. But I’ve noticed that I don’t like my contour without blush in between so I decided to just learn to apply blush properly after finding a color I actually liked. The IT Cosmetics brushes are the softest brushes I’ve ever touched. IT Cosmetics brushes are made with anti-microbial hairs that are individually custom cut. They never shed and pick up so much product that sometimes it’s scary when applying product. Definitely have to be careful about that. The Flawless Blush brush is specifically cut and shaped to fit your cheek so you can just pat it on your cheek and sweep. I think the greatest thing about this brush is that it’s part of the Love Beauty Fully collection. When you buy a brush from IT’s Love Beauty Fully collection, another brush is donated to the Look Good, Feel Better Foundation. This Foundation is all about women empowerment and helps women with cancer feel better by teaching them how to apply make up. I’m a firm believer in when you look better you feel better. Personally, make up has helped me during my depression when I’ve felt my worse. I would feel useless or just horrible about myself and doing make up just makes me feel a thousand times better. Of course it isn’t a cure but it does help me climb out of the darkest hole. Chemo has a lot of side effects internally and physically. Look Good, Feel better gives patients the opportunity to feel better about these physical side effects and I’m totally down for that.
These are my favorites just for the month of November. It’s already a week into December and I already have five new products that I feel like will be my December favorites. I can’t wait to share those with you guys! These are MY favorites based off of MY opinions. I’m no expert.
Halloween really brings out my creativity which brought me back to my writing. I loved this Halloween for TWO reasons. One, my boyfriend was with me to go Trick-or-treating with me and my son. Two, he was totally down for a family costume which I was beyond excited about. We thought of a few ideas but in all honesty, we waited until last-minute to shop for costumes and we couldn’t do what we originally planned. I ended up ordering our costumes a week before Halloween which was so nerve wrecking. To make matters worse, the cheap face make-up I bought from Family Dollar was more of a greasy moisturizer. There was no pigment whatsoever. What a waste of $5. But I don’t give up so I present to you, Mr and Mrs. Frankenstein’s Monster and baby Frankie.
I ended up doing my boyfriend’s make up with eye shadows, eyeliner, and my knowledge of the art world. I primed his face with Milani Prime Perfection face primer and then just started coating his face with Ofra Cosmetics Oil Control Pressed Powder. I used my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge and just applied it as a base for all the color, to give the green shadow some real pigment when I start to apply it. I used this because when I wore it for the first time I saw that it left this white cast over my face and wasn’t really translucent so why not use it for Halloween since I wouldn’t use it for any other day.
Now this may not be the best thing in the world but I did use this Victoria Secret Make Up Book and Victoria Secret discontinued make up in 2014. BUT did he die? No. I used these two green shadows to cover his face and then used my Studio Make Up On-the-GO palette to use the black shadow to outline the contours of his face. Specifically his cheek bones, his temples, his nose. I took the black and applied it under his eyebrows to give him a more sunken eye look. I applied some Hikari Black eyeliner to his lower lash line and smudged it out. I drew on some lines with my Tarte lights, camera, lashes precision longwear liquid liner in black. I wanted a bit of blood so I took my Kylie Lipkit in Leo and my lip pencil and drew some lines of blood next to the “stitches”. Finally I made one big horizontal line through it all and set his face with my NYX Dewy setting spray.
If you guys want a step by step pictorial of my boyfriends make up or mine, please let me know and I’d be glad to do so. Trust me, I love this stuff. I was watching old Desi Perkin’s videos and she mentioned that Halloween really got her to concentrate on her love of make up and always brings out her creativity. Instantly I realized that Halloween is what brought my creativity back. I haven’t written a blog post in forever because I’ve just been in this rut but decorating for Halloween and just working on costume makeup, I realized that I need to push harder with things I love and just do it. Stop being so whiney and just do. It’s not always easy but it is possible for me. Anyways, that’s all I have with you guys. Here are our pictures from Halloween and PLEASE feel free to share your Halloween looks with me! I love seeing everyone’s creativity so just post them!
I remember getting a judgmental look (one of a million in my life so far) from a “grown” woman as she said “oh no, you’re one of those girls” as I pulled out my moisturizer from my bag after coming out of Astoria pool at the age of 18. Yes, I am one of those girls with dry skin that only gets drier after coming out of a pool full of chlorinated water. Yes, I’ve cared about my skin from a young age, thanks to my mother of course. Yes, I have no shame in my skin care game because I know it’s one of the most important organs that I have. I’ve been using moisturizer since I was 14 but only started cleansing and really taking care of my skin at the age of 20. I see so many young girls caking on the make-up and honestly, 12 years old and wearing make-up is young in my opinion (I was wearing lip gloss from the 99 cent store, yup, the one with the flowers IN the tiny bottle), but it’s your life, do you, boo. But please for the sake of your skin, take care of it as much as you take care of your Naked palette. Everyone has different skin (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, acne prone), but there is a routine out there for you, you just have to try a few products. I have dry sensitive skin so this night-time/ day time routine might work for you if you have dry skin. Sorry my oily babies, I promise to have a routine for you after I speak to a few of my friends.
Of course I begin by removing my make-up with a circle cotton pad and my go to make up remover, the Garnier SkinActive Micellar WaterProof Make-up Cleansing Water. Make sure to shake it well before squirting it onto the pad because I’m an idiot and didn’t the first time and I felt like that bag that contained that Philly Cheesesteak in that Fresh Prince of Bel-air episode. This cleansing water removes my most stubborn eye make-up with a good swipe without stinging my eyes or adding crazy pressure. It’s never a struggle and my skin is never irritated.
Three times a week, I work a face mask in, whether it’s a DIY face mask or store-bought. I’ve been using Freeman Feeling Beautiful Charcoal and Black Sugar Polishing Mask and holy shit, I love it. It’s inexpensive and you can find it at any pharmacy or Ulta. The Charcoal detox your skin and purifies it which is great for even dry skin BUT don’t leave the mask on for more than ten minutes because charcoal IS known for drying your skin out and I just don’t want to risk it even though the brand says it’s for all skin types. The sugar is obviously a great exfoliator and nobody wants dead skin lying on their face, right? My skin always feels better after rinsing this mask off and I move on to cleansing even more because I’m paranoid.
This past month I’ve been using Kiko Make-Up Milano’s cleansing foam (which I can’t find online, I bought it in store). My face always feels so much cleaner after I use this affordable cleanser and it feels like it can breathe a bit more. I distribute it on my face and rub it with my Kiko Make-Up Milano Natural Konjac sponge. The sponge helps remove all dead cells (this also works with oily skin) and doesn’t need to paired with a cleanser but I like it that way, sue me (I’m broke, you’re not getting much). I immediately feel like my skin is smoother after I use the sponge, especially around my nose where my skin flakes from dryness. In fact, it’s not so dry there anymore so maybe this routine is works (That’s what she said).
It’s said that you have a 20 minute time gap after washing your face thoroughly to moisturize and be sure it’s in your skin, but what do I know, I’m not a scientist. What I do know is that I immediately moisturize after I PAT (never rub) my face dry. The moisturizer I use is the moisturizer my mother introduced to me when I was 16 or 17 and I loved it because it kept my skin hydrated and evened out my skin tone. I stopped using it because my mom wanted me to use something with SPF (I think) and I was a poor fool. I soon discovered that a majority of moisturizers with SPF tends to ball up on my skin and basically lose all power it could have had. BTW, my nose got sun spots that summer so…so much for that. I continued to use it because I was a broke 17-year-old who just used whatever her mom bought her but still sang “Independent Woman part 1” by Destiny’s Child as if it was relatable. I have now found my first love again and don’t think I can go back. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream for Dry, Sensitive Skin is now my go to moisturizer that makes my skin feel like it just drank 15 gallons of water. My dry patches are gone from the side of my nose and above my chin and it’s just so soft ❤ (yea I’m bringing back the sideways hearts). A little goes a long way so this 16 oz. jar is going to last a lifetime and I’m not even mad. It’s a great way to sleep at night.
After my shower in the morning, I brush my teeth and rinse. I splash water on my face (acting like I wasn’t just in the shower) and bam! Back to the same Kiko Cleansing Foam because why stop a good thing. Again, I used the natural sponge to work it into my skin and then rinse. I move on and use an eye cream because no matter how much sleep I get, my eyes are always puffy and have dark circles under them (mom life). I received Clark’s Botanical Anti-Puff Eye Cream in a BoxyCharm and I’ve fell in love. I’ve had nights were I’ve cried and woke up with those extremely puffy eyes that are oh so sexy and I applied this cream. Within 15 minutes, the puffiness was gone and I was able to apply make-up to my eyes perfectly. I was also able to uphold my badass reputation of not giving a shit about anything.
After eye cream I apply moisturizer to the rest of my face. I wake up super early so I need all the energy I can get but super soft skin as well. I use the Kiko Make-Up Milano 24hr moisturizing and energizing cream (which I can’t find on the website anymore. Is it discontinued?!). It’s super creamy and applies well and I only need a little in order to moisturize my face. It does the trick of waking me up a bit more and does work on my dry patches.
Overall, this is the routine that works for me. I still suggest drinking a lot more water throughout the day and trying different products if these don’t work for you. You can have dry sensitive skin and this still might not work for you. If you have any other products you can recommend or want me to try, feel free to comment below and I’ll give it shot and write a review in the future. Just remember, I’m not an expert.
I’m a procrastinator. It’s something I’m very good at. I figure by now, in this generation, I can possibly make it one of my skills and put it on my resume. But let’s forget that I didn’t post last Friday because I have my reason for lack of posting and that’s another post that I am working on. Right now let’s focus on my BoxyCharm and Ipsy bag of the month, shall we?
Welcome to our monthly BoxyCharm vs. Ipsy challenge. I can say monthly because this is my second post like this (I know! I’m getting places!). I want to say that Ipsy HAS been disappointing me lately on the products and I almost cancelled but who am I kidding, I love make up products big and small. Size does not matter (regarding to make up that is). If you are unfamiliar with these subscription packages I should clarify the differences. A monthly BoxyCharm box comes with four to five FULL-SIZE products from different cosmetic companies that vary different price ranges for just $21 a month. A monthly Ipsy package supplies five beauty SAMPLES including a cute make up bag to hold these products for $10 a month. I love BoxyCharms full size items because it helps build my ever growing make up collection. I love Ipsy’s sample products as well because if I love the items, it’s the perfect size to travel with even if it’s just a weekend getaway. Without further explanation, let’s get into my opinions.
April’s Ipsy bag! (Besides the make-up bag of the month)
I was super excited to receive a Tarte product since they are considered a bit more on the high end side. If you don’t know me, then you don’t understand that I have a fixation with lip products. I have multiple lipsticks/lip glosses/lip balms/ liquid lipsticks in different colors and shades from different brands. This lip crème is my first Tarte product though. As most lip crème’s are, this is very smooth and hydrating. The application is easy and smooth with no tugging and it’s very pigmented so one swipe will suffice. There is a transfer (I was wiping my boyfriend’s mouth throughout the day because in no way can he be prettier than I am) so I was reapplying throughout the day. My lips did feel a bit tingly as if there is some mint in the formula which is associated with healing dry lips so that I appreciate since I have dry lips always. The color Wonder (Poppy) is such a pretty berry pink and perfect for spring.
I’ve been seeing a lot of YouTube beauty gurus use nude liner for their waterline opposed to white like they used to. So when I got the Skinn Cosmetics Bright Eyes Eye Enhancing Eyeliner (think it’s for your eyes?) I was excited because now I didn’t have to go out and buy a nude liner. Does it work? Does it make you look more awake and your eyes brighter? It’s not a miracle worker people, you still need concealer but my eyes do look a bit wider (not like I needed them to) and I do look a bit more awake. It’s pigmented enough where it works but not enough to make you look like you’re following a tutorial for the first time and have no clue what you’re doing.
Packaging wise, I thought this was a metallic liquid lipstick at first glance. I mean since I saw Kylie Jenner release them (I was Heir soooooo bad) I figured we’re getting a glimpse at another company also do it. You know April is Coachella month so I figured it would be the thing to give this month. Nope, Starlooks cream eye shadow is definitely for your eyes and I actually love it. I was a bit nervous using a liquid eye shadow for the first time because I didn’t want to put so much that they get past my eyelash barrier and blind me for life. But the formula is so good and isn’t liquidy (that should a legitimate adjective by now) and works like a charm. It didn’t past my nap test (where I basically just take a nap for two hours) and did come off a bit towards the inner corner of my eye. Other eye shadows do blend easily with it and on top of it. I love the rose gold color and can use this for everyday looks and going out looks no problem. It dries within a minute or two so no sticky eyelids. I’ve gotten Starlooks eyeliner before and LOVED it so I’m not surprised with the brand having another product that I want to buy.
Crown C427 Duo fiber Blush Brush is probably a brush I can live without. While it is soft and smooth, I found that I could barely pick up product with it. I tried with my mellow blush in bronze and found nothing on my cheeks. I even tried my baked elf blush and even wet, wasn’t able to get any pigment on my cheeks. Maybe I’ll have to play around with different products with this brush, maybe it’s just the blushes I use but for now, I can live without it.
Morrocan oil Treatment from the Morrocanoil’s company is nothing new to me. In fact I bought this product last month after reading an article about it clearing this woman’s Keratosis Pilaris, which I’ve been dealing with since middle school. So for the sake of this month’s Ipsy bag, I used it on my hair as a mask. I left it in my hair for maybe 15 minutes before I washed it out since I was straightening it. I recently died my ends purple so I’ve been super paranoid of my hair drying out and this honestly turned my hair around. My ends are always the driest part of my hair so I was shocked to see if so shiny and it looked a lot healthier when straightened. I also used the smallest amount as an anti-frizz serum on a rainy day and by the grace of god, my usually frizzy hair was tamed (until I took a nap but I was pushing it anyways). You don’t have to use a lot of the product in the first place so a sample size will hold me down for a couple months.
Ofra is a brand I’ve been meaning to buy from for such a long time. I was SUPER excited when the BoxyCharm released the sneak peek on Instagram. Pasadena is a lovely dark dusty rose color that glides on beautifully. The formula is great and it smells like vanilla! It dries completely matte but I did get a little transfer every once in a while. I have a bad habit of rubbing my lips together so I did have to reapply throughout the day but I’m sure it’s actually long lasting to others. I’m not very impressed with this product honestly. Maybe Kylie Jenner spoiled me with her lip kits. Oh fuck, what if I’m tainted and will hate every other liquid lipsticks?
I’m not a big hand cream person. When I pack up my purse, I bring a pocket notebook, two pens, a lip product, a compact, my keys, charger, headphone, camera, and a travel perfume. Hand cream is never on my mind and my hands aren’t usually dry. With these cosmetics subscriptions I’ve actually built up quite the collection of hand creams and I’m not even mad. I’ve started to pack one in my purse every day and love that my hands are smoother. I love it when I want my nails to look EXTRA good. The Manhattan Beach Butter Hand Cream has a great musky salty beach smell. I’m obsessed with the smell but my only problem is, when I try to squeeze some out, so little comes out. I feel like I have to squeeze extra hard to get a significant amount and even then it squeezes out toward the side and not straight into your hand. Would I buy it? No, probably not.
I don’t know how many times I have to mention it, BUT I have no problem saying it again. Lip products of any kind are my favorite products to receive ever. The Purlisse Daily Lip Nourisher definitely helped my chapped lips heal in the matter of two days and it’s all thanks to the Jojoba oil that’s included in it. I have such dry lips because I don’t like drinking water because I’m a rebel and I rather have soda or lemonade. With this product, a little goes a long way so this tiny tube will definitely last a while. You definitely smell the hint of mango seed butter which contains vitamins A, C, and E. Mango is my favorite fruit so I’m definitely happy with that. The instructions say I can use this under a lipstick or gloss for a smoother application (check) and a color boost (same pigmentation). With a matte lipstick, obviously it turns it into a satin finish instead but sometimes I’m looking for that look so fuck it.
Okay so I was binge watching KathleenLights YouTube videos and I saw one for a mascara routine that helps keep her lashes curled and voluminous. I’m Dominican and Ecuadorian which means I have long lashes but super straight that won’t stay curled. She mentions using an eyelash primer before using mascara and I was like “what the fuck is eyelash primer? Never heard of it.” I completely forgot to look into it and then by the acts of the make-up gods, they blessed me. Of course most primer applies clear, Blinc eyelash primer applies in black. For the sake of my blog I decided to experiment with primer and try it two different ways. First I tried my Blinc eyelash primer with my Blinc Mascara Amplified to see if it’s a brand thing. I already love my Blinc Mascara because it’s tubing mascara so it slides off my eyelashes instead of giving me raccoon eyes. Kathleen’s routine is simple really. You curl your lashes, put on your primer, coat with mascara, wait until it fully dries (I usually do my face makeup then), curl again and add an extra mascara coat. I did that to my left eye and I definitely saw results compared to my right eye that didn’t have any primer. My eyelash looks a bit thicker and has more volume with this process but it’s subtle. I notice it because I look at my face every day. Plus side, my eyelashes stayed curled all day long which was ultimately my goal. The second experiment was to try it with mascara that wasn’t the same brand and I was disappointed to see no difference between the two eyes. The eye with the primer looks the same as the eye with JUST the Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Express mascara on it but luckily I love my Blinc mascara. I guess I’ll have to buy eyelash primer and let you guys know on another blog post.
Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Mascara
Finally, Your Minerals Eye Glimmer in the shade Brown Hypnotic is better applied with glitter glue (I used ELF glitter glue). It’s a very shimmery bronze that would go great with plenty of summer looks. You can use it without glitter glue for a soft subtle bronze but if you want full pigmentation, glitter glue is the way to go. I find it works great as center lid color and I pair it with my The Balm Mr. Write (Now) eyeliner in my waterline to make my boring brown eyes pop. I’m actually very interested in seeing the other Your Minerals eye glimmers and eye shadows to see if they’re all as blendable as this glimmer. There is fall out so you might be glittery throughout the day and look like a fairy but I think I’m okay with that.
The winner is Ipsy this month; they really stepped up their game on their products. Even though they are sample size, sometimes it the quality that’s important rather than the quantity. The overall price of the Ipsy package can’t be determined because some sample size items can’t be found online, just their full size version. The Boxycharm overall cost is $106.90 and all you pay is $21. I ultimately was disappointed with my BoxyCharm this month and would have appreciated better products but maybe someone else was completely satisfied. It can’t always be about me but hey, I’m no expert.
** from now on, I will be snapchatting my product previews when I receive them before I write my reviews the following week. So follow me: irrelephvnt
